The Himeyuri Monument is a memorial to the Himeyuri students in Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture.

The Himeyuri Monument stands on the site of the shelter where the Third Department of Surgery, Okinawa Army Hospital was located at the end of the Battle of Okinawa.

The Himeyuri Monument is a memorial tower, isn’t it? (ひめゆりの塔は慰霊塔なのね。)
On June 18, 1945, the students were ordered to disband when it was revealed that they would be defeated, but the surrounding area was exposed to heavy bombardment, and leaving the shelter meant death.
On the morning of June 19, 1945, the Third Surgery Department of Okinawa Army Hospital was attacked by the US military, killing 87 of the 96 people in the shelter.
The Himeyuri Peace Museum was built in 1989 next to the Himeyuri Monument.

In the exhibition room of the Peace Memorial Museum, photographs of students and teachers who died in the war are posted on the wall, and sentences explaining the personality of the dead and the situation at the time of death are displayed.
